How to record and read ECGs

A guide for new practitioners, or those requiring a recap.

This course explains how to obtain the best possible ECG tracing, and then the basics of interpretation.

It is designed for clinicians who need to obtain and do BASIC interpretation in order to identify normal, abnormal non-urgent, and abnormal emergency rhythms.

It is suitable for nursing, medical and clinical students, community, primary-care and non-specialist secondary-care clinicians.

It is not designed for qualified Paramedics, ACPs or Doctors who may need to interpret complex ECGs, but it certainly builds a platform for further learning.

The learning outcomes are:

• To identify techniques which generate the best possible ECG traces
• To identify common problems with poor-quality ECGs
• To identify a normal sinus rhythm
• To identify common amber-flag rhythms and appropriate escalation
• To identify common red-flag rhythms and appropriate escalation
